Derek Clark, international speaker, singer/songwriter suffered severe child abuse. Derek was in foster care for 13 years and identified as a high risk youth. He now empowers others and shares his message of hope.

GRETNA ONE DAY
CONFERENCE
We had a wonderful conference in Gretna on October 29, 2011 at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church. Foster & Adoptive families received up to 6.5 hours of in-service training and were able to network with each other. Workshops were Advocating for Your Child in Juvenile Court, Independence is Taught...not caught, Panel of former wards and Struggle For Identity: Masting Race + Adoption in Transracial Parenting. A soup lunch was provided. We hope to see you at a future training!!!
"Making the Commitment to Adoption"
The Spaulding program is offered to prosepctive adoptive families. We had this 12 hour training in Kearney and Scottsbluff over the first weekend in November. Many families attended. Another training is not scheduled at this time.

NFAPA had a wonderful one day training on August 20, 2011. Sara Goscha from DHHS talked about Policy and Regulations; Tammy Hereth discussed the Importance of Birth & Foster/Adoptive Family Relationships and Josh Kroll from North American Counsil on Adoptable Children (NACAC) presented on three workshops Adoption, Advocacy and the Tax Credit. We had a packed room for this conference and was enjoyed by all. We hope to see even more at the Gretna One Day Conference in October.
NFAPA Annual Membership Meeting/Training
Hastings
July 16, 2011
NFAPA had its annual membership meeting in Hastings on July 16th. We included a 6 hour in-service training.
Speakers included Tom Osterbuhr who talked about raising independent children and how to focus on the positives in our lives and Jodi Ortman, our Region 7 VP of the National Foster Parent Association, who talked about Reactive Attachment Disorder. We hope these wonderful speakers will return for future workshops!

THE HASTINGS AND SCOTTSBLUFF ONE DAY CONFERENCES WITH RICHARD DELANEY, PHD WERE A HUGE SUCCESS! WE HAD OVER 100 PARTICIPANTS ATTEND ON THIS VERY BUSY WEEKEND.
FOSTER & ADOPTIVE PARENTS WERE ABLE TO LEARN ABOUT THE MULTIPLY IMPACTED CHILD. HE ADDRESSED ADOPTIVE PARENTING ISSUES, HOW TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF WHY CHILDREN BEHAVE AND HOW TO APPROACH PROBLEMS.
HIS INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION ALLOWED FAMILIES TO ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS AND ADDRESSED POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS.
FAMILIES WERE ABLE TO RECEIVE 6 HOURS OF TRAINING FOR ATTENDING.
